2019 - 2020 PTO BOARD

Tropical parent since: 2012

Mom to: Allie (former Trailblazer), Olivia (3rd grade)

Favorite Tropical memory: I have many great memories at Tropical. My most memorable was at the Variety Show when my daughter performed in 2nd grade.

What I hope to accomplish with the PTO this year: I would love to have a lot of fun while getting to know the parents and kids and fundraising to further their education.

Interesting fact about me: We have moved 6 times in 10 years and I used to work as a Dental Hygienist before I became a health and wellness coach.

Vice President

Tropical parent since: 2015

Mom to: Brinleigh (1st Grade), Trent (6th Grade), Korbijn (Former Trailblazer), and Kehzahrynn (Former Trailblazer).

Favorite Tropical memory: Being a military family can be tough. When we joined the Tropical family back in 2015, my kids were welcomed from day 1. We've had many great memories on field trips and fun days at the school and can't wait to have many more.

What I hope to accomplish with the PTO this year: This year I hope to help our students have a great, fun filled year!

Interesting fact about me: I like to stay busy! On top of volunteering for the school, I'm also a member of the board for a youth football league, and am an ER nurse!

Tropical parent since: 2014

Mom to: Chloe (5th grade)

Favorite Tropical memory: I love being part of it all! Being part of the school allows me to be part of Chloe’s world and know the teachers, parents, classmates, etc. Helps me be even closer to her!

What I hope to accomplish with the PTO this year: Work with the teachers and school administration to support the kiddos and the school in whatever way is needed…simple but important.

Interesting fact about me: I am fluent in American Sign Language.

Joshua Selman

Tropical parent since: 2015

Dad to: Liam (3rd grade), Fiona (TK-1)

Favorite Tropical Memory: Walking Liam to school each morning and hearing his excitement to start another day at Tropical.

What I hope to accomplish with PTO this year: Learn everything I can about all the amazing things the PTO has already been doing. Before I went to my first meeting this year I had no idea how much our PTO is involved in providing the best resources for our teachers and kids. Tropical Elementary is expecting a large increase in students in the coming years and I want to be proactive in the planning.

Interesting fact about me: Grew up in Florida playing volleyball, fishing, and following the baseball teams around for spring training. Joined the Navy in 1993. Volunteered for the Submarine Force and worked in Radio and Electronics. After completing three Western Pacific Deployments I was Honorably Discharged and stayed in Hawaii until 2012. My wife Colleen and I decided then that a great education for our son was paramount. We quit our jobs packed up and moved to Merritt Island so Liam could follow his Auntie Lisa’s footsteps at Tropical Elementary.
